Who I help

Growing businesses that want clear numbers without hiring in-house. Every industry has its own quirks, and I know these ones well.

Daycares and childcare centres

Funding, fees and payroll all move at different times. I keep them matched so you always know where you stand.

  • Parent fees, subsidies and grant payments reconciled every month
  • Staff payroll with EHT, source deductions and T4s
  • Annual budget and cash flow forecast planned around funding timing

SaaS and tech startups

Subscription revenue doesn't fit a basic bookkeeping setup. I report it the way founders and investors actually look at it.

  • MRR, ARR, churn and growth reporting every month
  • Deferred revenue schedules for annual and prepaid plans
  • Budgets, burn rate and runway forecasts
  • USD and CAD accounts, Stripe payouts and fees reconciled
  • Investor-ready monthly reports
  • SR&ED support: expenses tracked and documented, working alongside your SR&ED claim preparer

Restaurants and hospitality

Thin margins leave no room for surprises. I keep a close eye on the costs that move the most.

  • POS sales and card deposits reconciled
  • Food and labour cost tracked as a percentage of sales
  • Tips and gratuities handled correctly through payroll
  • GST and BC PST, including PST on liquor

E-commerce brands

Sales flow in from several platforms at once. I turn the payouts into numbers you can trust.

  • Shopify, Stripe and PayPal payouts reconciled with fees separated
  • Inventory and cost of goods sold tracked properly
  • Sales tax tracked across provinces as you grow
  • Margins by product and sales channel

Also offering bookkeeping for contractors and trades, tutoring and learning centres, and professional services firms across Metro Vancouver.

Note from Teddy

Runway is steady at about 9 months. Two annual renewals brought in $18,000 in cash this month, which will show up as revenue gradually over the next year. Software costs rose to $4,200 a month, up from $3,100 in the summer, so it's worth reviewing unused tools before your next raise.

Enrolment rose to 62 and cost per child dropped to $1,266 from $1,290 as the new spots filled. Wages are up $2,100 with two new ECEs, which is expected. Two families are over 30 days behind on fees ($1,150), so a friendly reminder before December is worth sending.

Questions I often get

Q: My books are a mess. Is that a problem?

A: Not at all. Cleanup is a big part of what I do, and I've seen worse. I'll quote a fixed price before starting.

Q: How much of my time will this take?

A: Very little. Once your bank and card feeds are connected, I mostly need receipts and invoices for anything unusual by the 5th of each month. I'll email you when something needs your input.

Q: Am I locked into a contract?

A: No. Monthly bookkeeping is month to month. If it's not working for you, you can stop with 30 days' notice.

Q: I already have an accountant. Do I still need you?

A: Often, yes. Most accountants handle year-end and tax filing. I keep your books accurate all year, so year-end is faster and usually cheaper. I'm happy to work alongside your accountant.

Q: I'm an early-stage startup. Is it too early?

A: Usually not. Clean books from day one make fundraising, SR&ED claims and investor updates much easier. I'll scale the work to where you are now.
